The very best way to Blog

I have been blogging for some time now. In various different forms, I have had blogs online for years. I started blogging, not because I was enthusiastic about the concept, but because I wanted to make money. I was very quickly frustrated by the whole affair, I was making money, but it was coming in so slowly that I got impatient. So I built other blogs, lots of them. At one point I counted about twenty five blogs in my portfolio. Every other day it seemed, I was building and writing yet another blog. My subject matter varied massively from blog to blog. I had a blogs on subjects ranging from how to clear your debts to how to get the best from your mobile phone!

The trouble is that even though I was motivated to make money, that motivation was not enough to keep me posting regularly on each of my blogs. Writing a post for a blog takes effort. You cannot just blurt out three hundred words of garbage every day and assume your blog will be popular. You need to craft your posts, to think about them, and this was too much for me for all those different blogs.

The truth is that you need to be motivated by more than just money to blog successfully. You need to have a passion for your subject. And you certainly need to be patient. Blogging will not make you a fortune overnight. It takes months, and maybe even years of effort before your blog will make you a reasonable income. It is your passion that will keep you writing, long after you have given up hope of making money.

And if your goal from your blog is to make money, this will be apparent to all who read it. From experience I can tell you that there is nothing more off putting to a reader than to tell that the blog author is only interested in making money. This attitude seeps into your writing and permeates your blog like a foul stench that is all but impossible to wash away.

After years of blogging, and struggling with countless sites and ideas, I have finally deleted all of my old blogs. I am starting to write a new blog. I have picked a subject that I am passionate about, and I will pursue it. I am not adding adverts or affiliate links to it. I am determined NOT to make money from this site. I cannot let that be my motivation initially. I will look into monetizing the site in the future, but I would suppose that to be at least a year down the line. For now my motivation will be my subject matter. My passion will be in the art of writing a blog that people will find genuinely interesting and useful.

This is the best way to blog, I believe. I am not saying that you shouldn’t put adverts on your blog, but for me it is the best way that I can remind myself that the goal is not purely to make money. You may be able to keep your focus on the blog rather than the pay check whilst making some money from your adverts etc, but I know that I would struggle, and more than anything else I want my new blog to be a success.
