Using Google Base Data Feed for Advertising

Google is offering free advertising for your products, services and listings with Google Base. Enter as many products or listings as you like. For greater than 10 listings, you'll find it much more convenient to use the Google Base Data Feed Feature.

Go to google.com/base . If you have more than 10 items to add to Google Base, you'll click 'Data Feed' off to the right. From here you'll want to click on New Data Feed.

Go to google.com/base . If you have more than 10 items to add to Google Base, you'll click 'Data Feed' off to the right. From here you'll want to click on New Data Feed.

You'll select a target country and item type (ie: products, jobs, recipes, personals, etc.). Next you'll be asked for a data feed filename. Your best bet is to create a tab delimited file using Excel or similar program.

Inside a new Excel document, you'll want to use the first horizontal line of columns for the headers. Click here to find required and recommended headers/data for each item type.

Once you've typed in your headers, enter each piece of data for each listing on it's own separate line. Once complete, save this file as 'Text (Tab Delimited)'. You'll find this option in the drop down box at 'Save as Type.'

Save your file and enter YOURFILENAME.txt into the field on Google Base. Click 'Register Data Feed.' You will be returned to the uploads screen and here you will see your uploaded file with a status under 'Last upload date & status.' It shouldn't take more than one hour (usually around 10 minutes) for your file to be approved.

If your upload failed, you will get a status message that will notify you of the errors included in the file. Go and make the changes and resubmit your Data Feed.

Once you have a 'Success' your items will be posted and ready to be viewed. Click 'Active Items' to see each item individually. Other tabs at the top of this screen will give you options and reviews of each product and it's status.
